Fanfic: We Are One

 Petition to give Forgotten Disney More Love

Summary: 

One Shot. Mufasa teaches his son a lesson that will one day effect the future of the whole Pride. My thoughts on how Simba learned We Are One, before passing it on to Kiara as an adult.

Simba followed closely behind his father as they made their way through the grasslands. Mufasa was explaining the importance of the kingdom to his son, when a question popped into Simba's head.

"Hey, dad?"

"Yes, son?"

"Why am I the next king?"

"Because, you are my son." Mufasa said. "It's your birthright."

"But what about all the other lions?" Simba said. "What makes us different than them?"

Mufasa paused for a second, trying to think of how to explain. He sat down and looked at his son. "Your great grandfather Mohatu founded this Pride. During a drought he lead the animals to a new place...The Pride Lands...where there was plenty of water. The animals were so grateful, they decided he would be his leader. Eventually he fell in love with one of the lionesses who followed him..."

"Ew!" Simba stuck his tongue out.

"Simba." Mufasa chuckled before continuing. "And they had two cubs, my father Ahadi and his brother Mlinzi. Mohatu knew one day he'd pass on and join the stars. To protect the future of the Pride he taught his son how to respect and care for the kingdom. The Great Kings of The Past granted Mlinzi a powerful roar, allowing him to protect the Pride as well, as Lion Guard."

"Lion Guard?" Simba tilted his head to the side. "What's that?"

"The second born royal cub has a duty to protect The Pride Lands." Mufasa explained. "They help keep balance in The Circle of Life."

"Oh, cool! Is Uncle Scar a Lion Guard."

Mufasa looked away slightly. "He...was..."

"Oh..." Simba noticed how uneasy his father looked and decided not to press further. "...So, what happened with grandpa!?"

"When Mohatu joined The Great Kings of The Past, Ahadi took his rightful place as king. He and his Queen, Uru, had me and Scar. My father taught me all I needed to know, so that when the sun set on his time as king, it was time to rule."

"And know you're teaching me to be king, right?"

"Exactly." Mufasa nodded. "And one day you will teach your cub to rule. You will continue the circle like the other kings before you, because...We are one..."

"We are one?"

"Yes, my son. All of us are connected, and thus are one family." Mufasa smiled at his son. "Now, how about a pouncing lesson?"

Simba stood atop Pride Rock, standing with his mate Nala, daughter Kiara, and new Son in Law Kovu. The four lions looked down at their new Pride, finally connected, able to put the past behind them.

In celebration they roared in unison, celebrating their new unity.

The sunlight beamed down on Simba's face, as a familiar voice rang in his head:

Well done, my son... We are one...
